The Ladder was published by the Daughters of Bilitis from 1956 to 1972. This edition is from May 1964
In Gay history the Daughters of Bilitis’ famously kept their lesbian followers/ members informed across America with their publication ‘The Ladder’ from 1955 to 1976. (the ‘Daughters of Bilitis’ were the first lesbian rights organization in the United States.) It’s a great way to keep the community ‘in the loop’

Issue 1 of GW published June 2008
In 2008 GW Newsletter, the LGBT news letter from Wexford hit the stands. Launched by Senator David Norris and it’s Editor Barry Devereux. Later it was joined by it’s sister publication GK highlighting happenings in Kilkenny. We were involved until 2010. That’s where we cut our teeth. The GW & GKK mantel has since passed on to the next generation.

“When Gay Wexford again sought assistance for the printing of the newsletter in 2010, the application was refused. However my application did succeed in bringing the issues of LGBT lives and loves to the attention of the Wexford Local Development (then Wexford Area Partnership) again. I was asked to submit two proposals for funding. Working with Eamonn Byrne (Gay Wexford) and David Clarke (G W & Gay Youth Wexford), they were approved. Though Siobhan O’Brien (WLD) & Berni Smyth (Southeast Regional Development worker, LGBT Diversity with BelongTo) have been rewriting the GYW one ever since.
The result being Gay Wexford secured the 2 largest sets of funding ever received to-date. One for the capacity building of Gay Wexford, the second for the development of the Gay Youth Wexford services. The LGBT youth drop-in opens November 2011 in the Cloisters at the Ferns Diocous Youth Services (FDYS), Francis street, Wexford.
