Over the last three years, lesbian, gay, bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) groups and mainstream organisations have been working closely to strengthen LGBT supports in the South East, where social exclusion and discrimination is still a significant issue. One of the most exciting things to come out of this work is the development of a 5 year LGBT South East Regional Strategy. This is the first time a cohesive approach to LGBT regional development has been created.
The South East LGBT Regional Strategy group would like to invite you to attend the launch of this strategy at 10:00 am on Wednesday 24 October 2012 in Dooley’s Hotel, Waterford city (Tea, coffee and registration will commence at 9:30 am). The strategy will be launched by Niall Crowley, former chief executive officer of the Equality Authority.
The launch will be followed by a morning of round table discussions on the various themes within the strategy, which will attempt to get the wider mainstream community to examine the Recommendations and identify actions that could be implemented under current workplans, or within current remits.
The development and future implementation of this LGBT South East Regional Strategy will make the South East a model of best practice for LGBT inclusion and support in Ireland. The strategy will function as a resource for mainstream organisations as they work to fulfil their commitments to social inclusion for the LGBT community, and for the LGBT community as it works to build and expand its capacity within the South East Region.
While LGBT groups and Local Development Companies in the region have worked to develop the strategy, the participation of the wider mainstream community is an imperative part of its implementation. Your participation and commitment is particularly important.
